Artists Statement: Major themes emerge from apparently small beginnings - memories and perceptions, or found objects such as wording from a sign outside a building. These progress and expand to more universal considerations such as the physical and spiritual journey we make from point A to point B. A never-ending series of heads are protective masks which help us make this journey. Shadows are both present and not present. A series of Mysterious Black Spaces could become an archipelago.

There is often a strong, structural, architectural or landscape presence in the work. The Heads are sometimes entitled Fortresses. Walls, Towers and Angles of Trajectories echo geometry and draughtsman drawings. Colours and shapes are inspired by industrial or decaying areas of Manchester which formed some of the background cityscape and experiences from the artists’youth.
