ARMOURY explores the symbolic barriers that empower us to progress through life.
The shape of the head connects everything in this exhibition - masks which allow us to be many things. The motif of a mask/head is repeated throughout the work which is made, drawn, painted, rubbed out, patched and mended as part of the process of moving on.
The large drawings and oil paintings are a series of monumental heads which stand silently - protective and defensive. The smaller 3D heads are often repeated using different low-tech materials sometimes found in and around the artist’s studio.
An old works locker inspired the installation piece "Column aka Slaphead" in which a lead head stands on the pillar surrounded by plaster knives – the original, a remnant of belongings left in the locker.
