Mysterious Black Spaces

A glance at a chance sentence in front of a building pointing out a ’void` inspired a series of 21 drawings which were made from repeated actions culminating in painting a chosen black area on each of the pieces. These shapes, The Mysterious Black Spaces, led to a series of drawings and paintings where the shapes gradually began to resemble a set of islands- an archipelago. I was intrigued to see that a dictionary definition described the word archipelago as firstly a series of islands and secondly the water in between. I liked the duality and serendipitous balance which emerged as the project developed.
