Beaches

This sequence of paintings was inspired by summer holidays spent on a Kefalonian beach. The beach was scattered with temporary structures built by animal and human visitors going about their business above and below the surface. Sticks, stones, beach debris, sand and cloths had been used to form sculptures, towers, shelters and castles. A cycle of construction and destruction was taking place in parallel with the transformational qualities of the elements and natural rhythms.

Beaches, transient by nature, are composed of natural and man-made material. People, their belongings and history form part of this fragment collection. They are pulled to the beaches from disparate places throughout space and time. The physical and spiritual artefacts from this history lay hidden within the sand and ether.
